There are over 75 buttons in the poster's grouping I refer to as, "Civil Rights." The actual centerpiece of the poster itself is characterized by a button from the 1963 March on Washington, as well as several others pieces from that specific era. From SNCC, CORE, and the MFDP to the 1968 Olympics, Black Panthers and the Million Man March, these buttons cover an era from the early 1960s all the way up to the present. Malcolm X, Angela Davis, Dick Gregory, Martin Luther King, Jr., Eldridge Cleaver, Shirley Chisholm, "Hurricane" Carter, and many others are all represented here. The buttons also graphically depict many of the issues and events of the period, such as the student sit-ins, busing, the Bakke case, the Klu Klux Klan, 1968 Poor People's Campaign, and more. Other button highlights, and playing "by the numbers", include the Oakland 7, San Quentin 6, Connecticut 9, and Wilmington 10. Again, the narrative at the bottom of the poster depicts many facts and dates associated with the people, events, and issues brought to life via the buttons. "One Man, One Vote", "Free Bobby", "Free Huey", "By Any Means Necessary", "I Have a Dream", and "We Shall Overcome." It's all here in this, one of my favorite and most historical button groupings.
